Cannabis Cup lights up Amsterdam potheads
As Amsterdam potheads prepare for this year' s annual Cannabis Cup event there is a distinct whiff of amnesia. This is the 20th years of the event when Amsterdammers spend five days celebrating getting stoned out of their skulls.
No one is too sure what is happening over the five days of the festival from 18-22 November and the official website is woefully short on information. But at last someone surfaced to post a list of events.
Special buses have been laid on to shuttle visitors to the PowerZone where there are exhibitions and seminars on growing the stuff and an imprtant announcement from Redman the Emporer of Hemp at the Expo on the Monday. Videos, parties and concerts feature throughout the week with polls for the best stuff and a closing ceremony at the winning coffeeshop.
In past years it has attracted some 2,000 growers, dealers and users here to sample the latest goods being sold through the city's coffeeshops. The competition between the 20 or so coffeeshops and two dozen seed companies tends to be relaxed and somewhat laid back. If weed is your bag then make for Amsterdam for five days of amnesia.
