Downtown Amsterdam was a wash with Chinese flags yesterday as many thousands of students and Chinese/Dutch residents held a rally in support of the country recently the target of human-rights protests.
People of all ages packed into Dam Square for three hours of marching and chanting. "Welcome Beijing, Welcome China!" they shouted, whilst wearing Olympic symbols and Chinese flags.
A number of different banners were also on display, in the square which is just next to the Royal Palace in the centre of Amsterdam. messages like "Great Games, Zero Politics" and "One world, One Dream.", were shown proudly by the usually quiet Chinese community.
Similar rallies by pro-China organisations are expected across to the world in the run up to the Olympic Games in Beijing.
