Amsterdam GPS company to cash in
Following Apple Computers CEO Steve Job's keynote speech yesterday about their iPhone system, Dutch navigation maker TomTom said a iPhone compatible version of their navigation software was finished and ready to go.
The new iPhone uses 3G technology along with a built in GPS (Global Positioning System) to place a tourist on a map anywhere on the surface of the earth. The system is accurate to within 2 feet.
An Amsterdam based TomTom spokesman said "Our navigation system runs on the iPhone already". However he stopped short of announcing an actual release date for the product.
GPS is already a common aid for drivers in foriegn contries, but Apple and TomTom hope that the second generation iPhone will appeal to tourists exploring a city for the first time. Perhaps this device will become an essential tool on a short city break.
