Queen's Day arrests in Amsterdam

More than 200 people were arrested during the annual Queen’s Day celebrations across the Netherlands this year.

In Amsterdam, the police arrest toll topped 100, mainly for fighting and assault. Up to 600,000 partygoers headed to Amsterdam for the annual city celebrations.

Top event this year was the Radio 538 concerts on the Museumplein, which attracted an estimated 200,000 people for performances by Kane, Anouk, Krezip and Alain Clark.

Street cleaners worked overtime  clear up the rubbish left behind by the Amsterdam partygoers. Some 300 tonnes of waste were picked up afterwards.

In Rotterdam around 100 people were also arrested, many for urinating in public places but also for drunkenness, assault and vandalism.

In Arnhem, 26 people were arrested under public order offences and for possession of drugs and in Utrecht, 10 were arrested after fighting broke out in a cafe.

In Eindhoven police urged people to stay away after 100,000 jammed into the city centre, creating traffic chaos.
