How to Have the Time of Your Life in Europe

By Rachael Mills

The European continent is one of the most fascinating places on the planet, and the amazing attractions and historic cities are packed together incredibly tightly.

If you are thinking of heading off there then here are a few tips to help you make the most of your time in Europe.

Do Your Own Thing

It is easy to get caught up in the typical tourist race to see the big sights as quickly as possible; the Eiffel Tower, the Vatican, Big Ben etc. These are all wonderful sites but you don?t need to build your entire vacation around them. You should instead think about what you really want to do. Would you prefer to go to the beach, see some museums, ride on the trains or visit the mountains? It is your trip and only by doing what you really to do will you get back home feeling satisfied that you have seen the Europe which interests you most.

Take Your Time

Rushing over to Europe for a couple of days is tempting but you are likely to be left with a feeling of not having seen much of the place. The best advice here is to take as long as you can over your trip. For most of us who are traveling from far away it is a once in a lifetime experience and should be treated as such. If you try and pack in too much in too short a space of time then you are only going to get stressed and disappointed.

Speak the Language

One of the most difficult things about European trips is the variety of languages you will encounter. Even in the space of a couple of weeks you could go from a Spanish speaking country to French to German and on to Italian. If you can then try to pick up at least the basics of the most common languages before you go. You will enjoy your time in Madrid or Barcelona a lot more if you take some of the Spanish lessons New York has to offer. If you plan to see the famous delights of Paris then a few of the French lessons Vancouver and other North American cities give should give you the basic words you need to get by. Even the simple act of giving it your best shot will make the locals warm to you and help you enjoy the trip more.
