easyJet gets Manchester base
Europe's second-biggest discount airline, easyJet, is to open a base at Manchester International airport after acquiring GB Airways Ltd. EasyJet bought the UK carrier GB Airways in in October.
GB already has two aircraft based at Manchester and easyJet will add three more planes by 2010. Combined with expansionat Liverpool this will make easyJet the biggest airline operating in northwest UK, with 4 million passengers in the region annually.
EasyJet plans to add two planes at Liverpool's John Lennon Airport, to total to 10 by 2010. The carrier expects to complete the GB Airways acquisition by February.
GB flies 15 planes from London's Gatwick and Heathrow as well as Manchester airports. Easyjet's summer 2008 schedule adds route from Gatwick to Biarritz, France flying The four-times-a- week from July 4.
