Bulls turn into kittens in Seville
Seville's famous Feria de Abril is underway but has been marred by disappointment with the standard of the bullfights. The city's Spring Fair is a highlight of Spain's bullfighting calendar but critics have said the bulls have been a disaster. "They are not bulls but kittens", said Antonio Lorca, the bullfight correspondent for El Pais.
Critics have said the bulls waddled about and all but fell asleep on the job. "Instead of respect, they aroused pity" went on Lorca. On top of the poor displays by the participants, hundreds also protested outside La Maestranza, the city's spectacular bullring, calling for the spectacle to be scrapped as cruel. Others protested because taxpayers' money subsides bullfighting in Andalucia.
