France leads the way for Brit skiers

France is way ahead in popularity for a skiing holiday for Brits. About half of all British skiers opt for the French mountains with its snow guaranteed due to the high altitude. The highest rated ski resort is Alpe d'Huez but also popular is Tignes, highly rated for its snow record.

Alpe d'Huez aka 'L'Ile au Soleil' or 'Island in the sun' boasts the fifth largest ski area in France and  over 200km of piste to explore. Other attractions are a sports centre, a large outdoor pool and an ice skating rink. Non-skiers get the mountain views and waymarked walks as well as the cafes, restaurants, shops and cinemas.
