The French Riviera is a big draw for Britons when they retire, property consultants claim. And they say "a different type of person" is attracted places like Nice than to the Spanish coast. UK retirees are typically looking for properties which cost around £500,000, have three bedrooms and are close to airports.
In 2006 a study predicted that one in five British pensioners will retire abroad by 2050. Currently, one in 12 are living overseas. One thing is favour of a move to France is that properties in the French Riviera consistently retain their value. Other markets are not so stable and there have been reports of big losses being made in Spain.
