Riga is the most popular destination for travellers in Latvia were Riga a survey reveals. Riga district and Jurmala are the places where travellers preferred same-day trips without staying overnight.
Riga was the destination for 34.8% of all recreational trips and topped the poll for day trips, short trips of one to three days and long trips around Latvia of four nights or more.
The average length of short trips was two visitor nights and the long trip average was 7 nights. The majority of travellers were aged 25-44 years adds the report.
It comes against a background of falling visitors to Riga and Latvia in general. In the first quarter of 2008 holiday trips in Latvia dropped 14% on last year.
Reasons which prevented Latvian residents from making trips were: financial conditions (36%), lack of time (20%), lack of interest (21%), other reasons (23%).
