Wet weather forecast for Monaco Grand Prix

The lousy weather that has been all too obvious in many parts of the Mediterranean this Spring. Unfortunately, if it continues, it may turn the Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday into a nightmare for the drivers.

Spain's Fernando Alonso and Britain's Lewis Hamilton have already expressed fears about the impact of wet weather on Sunday. Heavy rain is forecast for Saturday's qualifying session, even more important than on most courses with the narrow road circuit making overtaking so difficult and grid position being vital. Pole position often means winning the Monaco Grand Prix.

The weather forecast is no better for Sunday's race. Alonso says: "This year it would be a nightmare, although I suppose a good result is possible because many cars might crash. I don't have a good feeling about it though, so I hope it stays dry." He added that it had been virtually impossible to drive the car during a wet practice session last year.

If it is wet, it will be a shame for the huge crowds that descend on the Principality for the most glamorous race of the Formula 1 season. Let's keep fingers crossed that the sun comes out and it's a fantastic weekend for competitors and spectators alike.
