Malaysia Airlines to fly to Nice airport

Nice airport is the second largest in France, and is a major hub for passengers traveling around western Europe. Because of this countries are always trying to secure landing rights helping tourists get to and from their airports.

Last month we reported how the Baltic states were pushing hard for landing rights in Nice, and now it is the turn of the Malaysian government who have recently secured extra landing rights at two secondary airports in France.

Two carriers, Malaysia Airlines and budget carrier AirAsia X who both already have connections with Paris, will now also fly to Nice and Lyon, starting next year.

A spokesman confirmed that Malaysian carriers will be given three times weekly slots rising to five additional slots in 2010. An official announcement is expected later this week from both the French Ministry of Transport and the Malaysian government.

Despite the initial optimism of the two carriers, it would seem that budget long-haul carrier AirAsia X was not sure whether it wanted to fly to the extra two destinations.

It was unclear if budget long-haul carrier AirAsia X would want to fly to the two airports in France.
