Riga cleans up in dirty city contest
Riga has cleaned up in a litter test of ten European cities while Dublin and Amsterdam are the dirtiest. The findings were released by Irish Business Against Litter in a survey of European holiday break cities.
The anti-litter group found Riga to be cleaner than Vienna, Strasbourg, Cologne, Barcelona, Copenhagen, Zurich, Stockholm, Amsterdam and Dublin. Riga was among the top six labelled “clean,” Stockholm earned a “moderately littered” tag, and Amsterdam and Dublin were worst of the bunch and deemed “littered.”
The survey checked out key tourist areas such as railway stations, parks, shopping streets, museums and churches. The "Dirty Dublin" tag comes despite the Irish capital being the third most expensive place to visit.
