Ready to roll at Riga music festival
Riga is setting the scene for the eighth annual Porta music festival set to take place in early November. This year the festival branches out from simple concerts in a bid to explore other European and world cultures.
It includes documentary movies to run alongside concerts and around 1,500 are expected to turn up this year. Bands lined up so far include popular Latvian erotic metal band Dzelzs Vilks (Iron Wolf) and the Georgian folk-jazz band The Shin.
Also appearing are Scandinavian folk ensemble Trio Groupa, and the Sicilian band Nakaira. The Polish band Motion Symphony will also take the stage with the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra.
The documentaries, which will be shown free of charge, focus on the music cultures of the Middle East, Africa and south east Asia.
The festival runs from Nov. 7 to 10, with most of the performances at Riga’s Liela Gilde. More details on the Porta Music Festival
