Tourist fly out of Riga as fast as they fly in
Baltic people are taking to the skies in ever increasing numbers. With more world destinations available, higher wages, cheaper tickets and the easing of visa requirements Latvians, Lithuanians and Estonians have triggered a rapid growth in tourism.
Fierce competition between cheap flight airlines and cheap tickets have triggered a 40 per cent rise in Baltic travellers heading out to city break destinations. Latvia’s national airline, airBaltic, now carries more passengers than both main rivals Estonian Air and Lithuanian Airlines combined as the company promotes cheap flight tickets.
There are plans by all the airlines to introduce new European destinations, cut ticket prices, promote online booking and improve customer service to temp more passengers to take a cheap city break.
Despite overall inflation in all the Baltic states there has been a sharp reduction in ticket prices in recent years, with some falling 50 percent over the past year. Companies are constantly cutting prices to stay one step ahead of the competition.
