Centre of Riga is drying out
Despite the best efforts of Riga's waterworks company 'Rigas Udens', residents in the centre of Riga were still without water last night. The problem has been caused by repairs to the main water system which runs into the city.
The shortage has made a number of schools and restaurants shut down. They had been managing on low water pressure for weeks, but now have none at all.
Tourists were surprised how little the shortage seemed to be bothering the residents, with many Rigans seeming relaxed and uninterested with the problem.
Riga Udens has warned the city that even when the water is back on, it may take a number of days before it's safe to drink. However tourists planning a trip to the Latvian capital, shouldn't worry, all systems should be back up and running in the next 2 - 3 days.
