UK revelers get banged up in Bangkok of the Baltics

A 23-year-old Scot climbed on up a monument Latvia's capital Riga and flashed at passers-by by hoisting his kilt. He was arrested and now faces a 50 lat fine. The man, who was not named, had no underwear beneath the kilt, say police.

Hordes of young British tourists taking advantage of low-cost flights to in Riga, dubbed the "The Baltic Bangkok" because of the sex and drink that is freely available in the capital.

Riga residents are increasingly irked by the behaviour of loutish yobs from the UK and the disrespect shown to their Freedom Monument, a revered sculpture embodying patriotic pride. Several Britons have been arrested this year for urinating on the monument.

Two members of a UK stag party were arrested recently for possession of cocaine and a third released without charge. Also four UK men were arrested when they tried to take down some Latvian flags to take home as souvenirs. They were released without charge but not until they had spent two weeks locked up.
