Kilts banned from Riga nightclubs
Almost every pub and nightclub in Riga has banned the tartan from their premises. It follows the growing flood of Scots stag parties attracted by cheap flights and budget booze.
The Scots have been in the habit of lifting their kilts after too many pints, revealing all and offending the locals. Fighting has broken out as outraged locals have objected.
Now, in the Latvian capital of Riga, almost every nightclub has banned Highland dress and many pubs have followed suit. Other cities in the region are also banning the kilt with some Scottish stag revellers reporting problems in getting into clubs and pubs in Prague and Budapest.
Some Scots say they have only themselves to blame and that wearing the kilt should be done with respect. They say lifting the kilt is creating a poor image of Scots abroad and maligning the national dress.
