Riga visitors to tour Swedish brig
The Swedish brig 'Tre Kronor af Stockholm' is to sail to Riga for its first visit tot he tourist break city.
The brig is a two-masted ship carrying square sails and was one of the most important sailing vessels of the 18th and 19th centuries. The Swedish ship is modelled on 'Gladan', a brig built in 1857 as a cargo navy ship which was eventually sunk in the harbour of the Navy town Karlskrona in 1924.
Riga public and city break visitors will have free access to the brig on June 28 from 10 am to noon and 2 pm to 4pm, as well as on June 29 from 10am to noon.
Visitors will get excursions around teh deck and inside the vessel, with a chance of viewing the cabins, conference room, technical and navigation facilities.
The 'Tre Kronor af Stockholm' was built more than 10 years ago and has sailed from Stockholm on its first two-month tour of the Baltic Sea.
The brig is nicknamed the 'Baltic Sea Ambassador' and its main focus is on promoting trade, environment protection and youth development.
