Metallica to play Riga
Californian metal band Metallica will play Riga, Latvia on Sunday, July 20. The band has been booked at the Skonto centre and the gig is expected to sell out quickly.
Metallica was formed in 1981 but has seen the lineup change since drummer Lars Ulrich put an ad in a Los Angeles newspaper to start a band.
The original lineup included Ulrich, guitarists James Hetfieldas, Dave Mustainer and Ron McGovney. They were later replaced by Cliff Burton and Kirk Hammett until Burton was killed in 1986.
His replacement Jason Newsted, was later replaced by Robert Trujillo after Newsted quit in 2001.
The group’s 1991 album Metallica hit number on Billboard 200. More recently Metallica sued the former free file sharing website Napster.
