High cost of breakfast in Venice

The cost of eating breakfast at a table in Venice is the second highest in the country, a survey has revealed. Customers pay €4.69  for a cappuccino and brioche in the city. Only Rome is more expensive at €4.92 according to figures from the Italian consumers’ association Altroconsumo. In Florence the price is €4.12 and Bari is the cheapest for a sit-down breakfast at just €2.66.

But if customers have breakfast at the bar then Venice takes the biscuit. A cappuccino and a brioche at the bar is most expensive in Venice at €2.23. It gets cheaper in Rome, an average €1.84, on a par with othere Italian cities like Naples, Bari and Palermo.

But Rome hits the top spot again with an espresso drunk at a table. Here it costs €2.35, followed by Florence and Bari is again the cheapest at €1.15. But Rome is one of the cheapest to drink an espresso at the bar, at 78c, with Bologna charging 93c and Venice 88c.
