Venice holds top spot for pricey hotels
European hotels continue to top the world in pulling in cash. In the latest index Venice continues in the top spot for the fifth year in a row for revenue earning from the near 20 million tourists that visited the city last year.
Revenue per room rose 22% in 2007 to hit £132. It was well ahead of Paris which came second at £124 ( 23.2% increase) with Moscow from seventh to third place with a 23.5% rise to £121. London stayed in the top five at number four at £111, an 18.5% growth on the previous year.
But experts say Europe could soon be challenged by other world regions as tourists fly further afield. The Middle East continued good growth, increasing by 16.9% while income in the Asia Pacific region rose 12.9% last year.
